"What Happened to You?" - Trauma Informed Care 101 for Children and Families
This 2 hour training provides foundational knowledge regarding child trauma. After defining key terms, including traumatic stress, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and systemic oppression, we explore how trauma and adversity impacts individual and family behavior, emotions and way they view the world (e.g., suicidality). Participants begin to identify how service systems, often unknowingly, exacerbate symptoms for trauma survivors, and more importantly, what to do to amend that. We highlight the difference between trauma specific services (e.g., TF-CBT) and trauma informed care (e.g., the ACEs study), and practice viewing behaviors through a trauma informed view point.
Who Is This For? Parents, Caretakers, Foster Parents, Counselors, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Physicians, Social Workers, Case Managers, DFPS, Childcare workers, teachers, school counselors, school administrators, teachers, lawyers, law enforcement, juvenile probation officers, and church leaders.
