"What Happened to You?" - Trauma Informed Care 101 for Children and Families (2 hrs)
This training provides foundational knowledge regarding child trauma. After defining key terms, including traumatic stress, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and systemic oppression, we explore how trauma and adversity impacts individual and family's behavior, emotions and way they view the world (e.g., suicidality). Participants begin to identify how service systems, often unknowingly, exacerbate symptoms for trauma survivors, and more importantly, what to do to amend that. We highlight the difference between trauma specific services (e.g., TF-CBT) and trauma informed care (e.g., the ACEs study), and practice viewing behaviors through a trauma informed view point.

Your Child Is Not A Pedophile: Myths and Facts Regarding Kids Who Sexually Act Out
Problematic Sexual Behavior (PSB) in children can be confusing, at best, and terrifying, at worst, to both the child and care givers. Often social workers, DFPS workers, pediatricians, teachers and other professionals will be confronted with this issue but have no idea what it is or how to help. This training is an introduction to PSB intervention in kids ages 3 to 12. It will be helpful for anyone who works with children including parents and foster parents, caregivers, social workers, childcare workers, DFPS workers, pediatricians, school officials, teachers, attorneys, law enforcement, and early childcare providers. People attending this training will leave with concrete tools and strategies for PSBs in kids that they can use immediately after leaving this training.

Trauma & Extreme Behavior (2 hrs)
Don't Get Furious, Get Curious: Responding to and Intervening in Extreme Child Behaviors
This talk will discuss three types of extreme child behavior and what effective responses look like. The first behavior is physical violence and aggression. Information from science based treatments such as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) will be used to show effective response. The second behavior is sexual acting out in children and teens. Approaches from the PSB-CBT treatment approach (which has a 95% success rate with sexualized behavior in children and teens) will be illustrated. The last behavior is sucidality in children and teens. The Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) model (which has over three decades of experience in dealing with child and teen suicidal and parasucidial behaviors such as cutting) will be discussed. Although clinical therapy approaches will be discussed one does not have to be a therapist to attend or benefit from this talk.
